Bibliochat: ‘Homeland Elegies’ by Ayad Akhtar

Bibliochat

An honest review of our first pick of the month, this featured on President Obama favourite books of 2020 so we felt in rather good company.

A fictional take on the authors life ( though where the fabrication begins and the truth ends no one is sure), with themes of identity, race, politics and family all discussed in a deeply philosophical and compelling way.

The main character is born in America but his family are from Pakistan and Homeland Elegies centres around what this means to the author in a very vivid and contemporary way. Scenes from the aftermath of 9/11 are incredibly poignant and impactful.
