The House Of Earth And Blood by Sarah J. Maas

I didn’t move from my reading chair for most of the 30 hours it took to devour this 800 page behemoth this weekend. You better believe I put on my leather jacket to go to the supermarket this morning after being immersed in a world of female assassins, fae, angels, demons, witches and so much more. Fantasy lovers all over the world will know this widely popular book released in paperback this month, and the prolific author @therealsjmaas

I love reading this genre but have very particular tastes, preferring the more literary, academic fantasy (think Professor @debharkness All Souls Trilogy). This book has been ALL OVER #bookstagram and when our wonderful friends at @bloomsburypublishing sent us a copy I was trepidatious.

You are thrown into a world of many creatures and worlds with little explanation, very much a la J R Tolkien. This is a crime fighting, magical thriller with strong character development, serious chemistry, twists that you will leave you gasping and it is pure unadulterated escapism. There are elements that reminded me of Miltons Paradise Lost and once you are completely submerged in the world Mass has created it is quite breathtaking.

The story centres on Bryce, and her journey avenging the murder of her friends killed by a demon. Set in a sizzling metropolis ruled by archangels (called malakhim which is in fact the Ancient Hebrew term for angel), she is joined by Hunt a Fallen Angel and my second husband to be.

There is a lot of action but there is also a really beautiful depiction of grief and an exploration of friendship, family, mental health and morality that I didn’t expect. If you want a book that will make you forget your own name this is it. Let me know if you loved this because I need to discuss this book immediately!!!
