Warning: if you start watching @thefoldinglady ‘s viral videos there is a risk you will empty draws & draws of clothing to try her hacks. With over 4 million followers on tiktok & an internationally selling book, Sophie is an internet sensation who feels like a friend you have known for ages. We are both desperate for her to come & sort out our lives. She is also the loveliest human you could ever hope to meet & she recommends The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, a book we absolutely adored (find our igtv chat when we reviewed this linked in stories), that is fast becoming a classic:

“I love the setting of old Hollywood & it was amazing to listen to someone’s reflections of their time as they approach the end of their life. It was incredibly refreshing to watch Evelyn & Celia’s relationship grow out of pure love without an emphasis of gender or the need for labels as they hid.

I’m a massive believer in people living truthfully for themselves regardless of social norms & I adored how the characters cared for their child collectively. It felt like such an authentic supportive family dynamic, though it came from a darker place of hiding their sexuality their ability to defy convention allowed a unit that seems better than most (who wouldn’t love to have this?!)

There were such beautiful themes of love, whatever Evelyn was like, the love she had for her child, Harry & Celia was a pure organic love. I bawled my eyes out for Evelyn, it was so sad but also so uplifting in a weird way, I don’t think I have ever read a book with so much sadness but so much hope. It’s probably the best book I have read this year & I would highly recommend it!”
