YOU MADE A FOOL OF DEATH WITH YOUR BEAUTY

Sound that alarm! The book of the Summer is here & it’s PERFECTION. Out this week from @azemezi the incredible author of The Death of Vivek Oji, it’s hit number 5 in the upcoming bestseller lists & with good reason.

I read this yesterday in one blissful sitting. It gave me all the sizzling Bridgerton romantic tension, with a really moving exploration of the power of art, grief and rebirth after unimaginable loss.

I’m going to pass the job of providing a summary to my girl Soph (see her below review) so I can gush about this a bit longer. This is a colourful, lyrical, as real as it comes tale of friendship, forbidden love and lust with angles of LGBTQ+, heritage and an undercurrent of warmth and meaning.

The stand out character for me is Joy the best friend of our main protagonist. She made me howl with laughter. So many people will enjoy this book. If only I had read it by the ocean with a margarita ~ C

I *LOVED* this book. LOVED IT. Ok, admittedly having the opportunity to sit & read it on a beautiful beach added to my enjoyment of it but let me just say — what a book!

The story of Feyi, an upcoming artist tragically widowed in her mid twenties, the story is set 5 years after the accident in which her late husband was killed. Life has been, unsurprisingly, challenging since & we watch as Feyi explores & manages her grief, in a myriad of ways. Her best friend Joy (a character who I adored) is with her for the ride, providing counsel, humour & support at each step of Feyi’s journey.

When Feyi meets a man who takes her breath away from the moment she meets him, it’s quite clear that something in her has shifted — forever. There is a slight problem though; because that man, by the very nature of who he is, makes him virtually untouchable. Or does it.

Beautifully written, full of complexities & an absolutely stunning examination of grief, identity and the importance of grabbing life by the moment, this is the perfect summer read, whether you’re reading it by the beach or not! ~ S
