Sophie & Chaya Bibliochat: The Fell & Summer Water

Bibliochat

Spoiler Free: Sarah Moss is an acclaimed author, lauded by her fellow writers. Our friend Camilla at @picadorbooks warned us that we would read nothing like The Fell this year and she was right.

Published on the 11th November to unanimous praise, this slim book wastes not a single word in building momentum. Highly evocative we follow Kate as she breaks out of quarantine during the second pandemic. Distilling the emotions of an entire nation in these characters this is a writer at the height of her powers.

Summerwater is Moss’s previous book, a @waterstones book of the month and shortlisted for the @theorwellprizes political book of 2021. Set in isolated cabins in Scotland, you are immediately put in the mind of different characters during a long, rainy summer day.

The stream of consciousness prose, the acute attention to detail and the dexterous use of language is what sets Moss apart.
