The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Today, on International Women’s Day, we are absolutely thrilled to have the wonderful Olivia Jackson aka @clothesmyboyfriendhates join us on the proverbial floor with an incredible book recommendation. Olivia is witty, insightful and hilarious — she wears what she wants, no matter what people (namely, her boyfriend) think — we happen to think she *always* looks superb but do go check her out for yourselves. Indeed in her own words, ‘if he rolls his eyes at it, I know it’s good.’ Olivia has helped raise awareness for really important issues such as period poverty and is on a mission to empower women to do what makes them feel great — and as you’ll see, her recommendation to you completely encapsulates this attitude.

‘My book recommendation is ‘The Nightingale’ by Kristin Hannah. Not only was it my favourite read of 2020 but it will always remind me of the power of (especially female) friendship. I often associate books with the situations I was reading them in. I was given this book as the first of a subscription my friends gave me for my birthday last year, which was a couple of days into the first UK lockdown. As I’m approaching my second lockdown birthday, I have absolutely no doubt that I wouldn’t have got through the last year without my wonderful, supportive friends – and our book club. The novel itself is a powerful story of love & family during WW2 and you can draw some similarities to the situations many have found themselves in during the pandemic. It’s incredibly well written and despite being emotional and a difficult read at times, is comforting at many other points. It’s a brilliant read.’
