Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen

One of us kept all 580 pages of Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen in utterly *pristine* condition before passing it onto the other one of us who, well, look at the state of it in the photo above (which was taken seconds before all 580 pages of it fell into the bath, pictured).

That aside, Crossroads is the first in a planned trilogy and surely one of the jewels in this year’s literary crown. Set in the 1970s in the American Midwest, it is the story of the Hildebrandt family — Russ, Marion, Clem, Becky, Perry and Judson — who are each, arguably, facing their own crossroads in their respective lives. Crossroads is also the name of a popular local church youth group and faith, as well as family, forms a major component of this monumental novel.

There’s a huge amount to cover when it comes to this one so make sure you tune into our IGTV tonight for a taster.

Huge thanks to @mattclacher and the team @4thestatebooksfor our advance proof copy.
