Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Wildly popular in America, Finlay Donavan is Killing It by @ellecosimano has been racking up five star reviews across the board and I can see why. If you do find yourself on holiday or if you are in need of some easy escapist comedy, here is the book for you.

This is the literary equivalent of going to the cinema with your best mates to watch a light entertaining comedy that will completely distract you for a few hours. It’s not the type of book I would usually read but I am so pleased I did – I will definitely read the sequel out in Feb and watch the series being developed.

Finlay is a mum of two young kids whose husband has recently left her for their estate agent. A struggling author, she is mistaken for a contract killer and is asked by a desperate woman to take care of her horrendous mob-connected husband. As we watch Finlay struggle with her conscious and the morality of her actions, the hilarity continues.

The opening sentences encapsulate the tone of this book: “It is a widely known fact that most moms are ready to kill someone by eight thirty A.M. on any given morning. On the particular morning of Tuesday October eighth, I was ready by seven forty-five.”

I read this in one sitting as the author has crafted a great plot with twists I didn’t expect. A page turner with believable characters that made me laugh uproariously, it is heartfelt, authentic and witty. In terms of genre this is a blend with elements of a mystery/crime thriller and romantic comedy. A few friends have bought this already and loved it.
